Exhibitions Members occasionally take part in exhibitions showing their paintings. These may be in exhibitions organised by the society or in exhibitions organised by other organisations. Photographs of some of the entries are shown in the gallery section of this website. The Old White Beare, Norwood Green (2006 - 2010) Over the last 5 years, the art society has had a constant exhibition of paintings by members. Every 12 weeks a new challenge was given to members to paint a picture on a certain theme. Commission from the sales and money from the entrance fee was given to Overgate Hospice, Elland. The paintings were judged by staff from Overgate and prizes were awarded. After displaying the paintings for 6 weeks, the artists exchanged the picture for another. So there was a constant change of artwork for the customers to view. Photographs of some of the paintings are shown in the gallery section. As this has now come to an end, the Society is looking for new premises to continue the exhibitions. All members of Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Art Society wish to express their grateful appreciation to the owners and staff of the Old White Beare for providing this opportunity to display their work and, in so doing, raise funds for the Overgate Hospice over the years. Our grateful thanks also go to our members who have put in a lot of work organising these events: John (Allingham) who started this in 2006 and ran it until Sheri (Drake) and Anne (Wade) took over in 2008. Thank you to everyone. Brighouse Gala Hipperholme and Lightcliffe Art Society has occupied a marquee in a prestigious position at the Brighouse Gala for many years. Every member has the opportunity to display a number of their paintings and the occasion has proved an ideal showcase for attracting on-the-spot purchasers as well as repeat buyers who visit us specifically to add to their collection of original paintings. Everyone did such a superb job and the team work, past experience and help of new members too made the organisation of the whole event a smooth and professional success. Smith Art Gallery, Brighouse Library The Society has secured an annual slot to exhibit members’ paintings at the Smith Gallery, housed in the Brighouse Library. For photographs of the opening ceremony of 2010's annual art exhibition at the Smith House Gallery, Brighouse, see the gallery. The results of the 'Best in Show' at the exhibition are: 1st - Dorothy Pickering with 'Desert Landing (15 votes), 2nd - Muriel Kaye with 'Full of Life' (10 votes) and 3rd - David Scott with 'Oakwell Hall' (8 votes). Congratulations to you all and especially to Dorothy - a worthy winner.
The art society joined with members of the Brighouse Art Circle to mount an exhibition in this showroom. Some 140 paintings were displayed over 3 floors. The winning entry was selected by the owners of the company.
